/Summary
Our team were commissioned to undertake the design of a remodelling of existing ward accommodation with the aim of eliminating mixed sex wards and ablution facilities. The scheme involved the internal redesign of an existing single storey H-block comprising two mixed wards. One wing was retained for use whilst the other underwent remodelling. Our involvement was from inception through the full design process and included the administration of the building contract on site to completion. The scheme is now understood to have been taken as a model by the NHS for elimination of Nightingale accommodation.
